Sometimes family child care providers get stuck when trying to resolve a conflict with a parent.

There is a tool you can use to resolve almost any conflict – The Three Choices of Life.

When you have a conflict with a parent, there are only three ways to resolve it.

The first option is to say to yourself – “I am happy” – This means you will agree with what the parent wants to do, and be happy about it.

The second option is to say to yourself – “I am not happy” – This means you will tell the parent what she needs to do differently, and if she doesn’t do what you ask, terminate her contract.

The third option is to shut down your business. If you can’t be happy in what you are doing, find another job that will make you happy.

This is the beginning of my latest podcast, “The Three Choices of Life.”

In this podcast I use a practical example of how to use this tool to resolve conflicts with parents. Here’s a transcript of this podcast.

This is the six in a series of podcasts I am doing on the business side of child care.

The podcasts are produced by Jeff Johnson of the Child Care Bar and Grill and are shared on the Explorations Early Learning Facebook page.

Here’s a link to all of my podcasts.
