For over fifteen years I was on the board of the non-profit organization First Children’s Finance. Their mission is to “help children thrive and learn by forging relationships that bring economic power and viability to the business of child care”.
They offer low interest loans to family child care providers in Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan, North Dakota, Kansas, Missouri, South Dakota and Texas.
They also provider a variety of consulting and technical assistance to help family child care providers succeed as a business.
In 2008 I was interviewed by staff at First Children’s Finance and talked about my work with this organization and about the business of family child care. I also spoke with Linda Smith, president of the National Association for Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies about how the child care industry is effected by difficult economic times.
