Help is on the Way! Major Grants Coming for Family Child Care Providers!

Family child care providers will soon be eligible to receive grants from their state, territory or Tribe. The goal of these grants is to address the financial burdens child care providers faced during the COVID-19 public health emergency. By offering much needed, immediate economic relief to child care providers, this funding aims to help stabilize the child care market so that families have better access to child care that meets their needs.

These grants are not a loan. They do not need to be paid back.

These grants will be made available as part of the American Rescue Plan passed by Congress in March. About 24 billion dollars was allocated for child care stabilization grants that can be used for a variety of operating expenses, including paying yourself (even if you are self-employed).

Free Webinar

To explain these grants, I will be offering a free webinar, “What the Child Care Stabilization Grants Mean to You” on Saturday, June 26th, from 2-4pm Eastern Daylight Time. The webinar is sponsored by the Office of Children, in partnership with the National Center on Early Childhood Quality Assurance.

This webinar will cover:

  • How to apply for the grants

  • What they can be used for

  • What are the tax implications of the grants

  • What records to keep and how to deduct expenses associated with grant spending

  • And more!

Register here for the webinar. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar. The webinar will be recorded so you can listen to it later.

Further Details

All providers should apply for these grants when they become available in your state. You will be better off financially after receiving a grant.

Your eligibility to receive these new grants are not affected by having received previous state grants or money from the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).

Here’s the link to several states that have already posted an announcement of these grants. Your state will soon do so. When they do, please share the link in the comment section.

Look here to find out how much money your state has for these stabilization grants.
