Warning: Attempts to Scam Child Care Businesses

We want to provide a warning about attempts to scam child care businesses.

Recently, we’ve heard from providers about emails offering “EIDL Loan forgiveness.” EIDL loans cannot be forgiven, so this has been a concern. Last week a family care provider was hit by the most sophisticated scam we have heard yet, where over the course of several calls the well-trained scammer claimed to be calling from the Small Business Administration offering EIDL forgiveness for child care providers serving one or more children on subsidy.

The caller’s ID showed up as the SBA on the phone, they have a multitude of SBA-branded documents, and tried diligently to get access to the provider’s accounts.

Considering how well-orchestrated this effort was, we wanted to provide a heads-up to child care providers about these scams.

Again, there’s no EIDL Forgiveness program, so if you are solicited, end the call and don’t provide personal and financial data.
