Do I need workers’ compensation insurance if I only hire a substitute for one day during the year?

It depends on your state. Some states require workers’ compensation insurance regardless of how little time someone works for you. Other states only require this insurance after an employee works longer. Check with your state workers’ compensation office to find out the rule for your state.
