A parent won't bring proper shoes. What should I do?

A provider asks, "I do not allow children to wear Crocs (a type of shoe) for outdoor play. The child continues to come in this shoe style. We are outdoors. Should I not have her wear them and go barefoot? It's not possible to have her stay inside with a provider while others are outdoors playing."

My answer:

You have three options:

1) Terminate the parent

2) Buy appropriate shoes for the parent and charge the parent for the shoes

3) Have the parent bring appropriate shoes and keep them in your home

If it's safe for a child to go barefoot, then they can go barefoot. However, you are responsible for any injury suffered by the child.
