This is National CACFP Week!

The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) is a federal nutrition program that works to combat hunger and bring healthy foods to children in family child care homes and centers.

March 14-20th is National CACFP week sponsored by the National CACFP Sponsors Association. It’s a time when providers and parents can celebrate this valuable program.

The Food Program reimburses family child care providers for serving nutritious food. In doing so it offers a major source of financial assistance to providers.

All family child care providers are financially better off by participating on the Food Program.

I still hear some providers and tax preparers say that it’s not worth it to be on the Food Program. Wrong! I’ve addressed objections to the Food Program in this video:

In 2013 I successfully lobbied the IRS to adopt the standard meal allowance rule that allows providers to claim food expenses without needing any food receipts.

To join the Food Program, contact a local Food Program sponsor in your area here.

The Food Program is great for children, parents and providers. Join and stay on the CACFP. Let’s work to make it stronger!
